Hello Nora!  Thank you for being a guest on the blog today to speak about your experience as a makeup artist and natural beauty/ skin care advocate.  I read your bio and it looks like you’ve done it all!  Having been in the beauty and skincare industry for over 15 years, I wanted to speak with you today about how that experience has helped shape your desire to be where you are now as a Beautycounter Consultant.

First of all, you’ve done makeup for A Stylish Love Story photo shoots and I am always impressed with your professionalism and your work.  It’s nice to give you full reign to use your artistic abilities to create “a look” for my blog shoots because as you know, I am no makeup expert, and I am very grateful for your ability to come up with something beautiful on the spot.

So, can you share with us about the type of work that you’ve done in the beauty and skin care industry?

I went to Paul Mitchell where I graduated in 2004 with my skin care license. I then became an educator for Paul Mitchell and received my post graduate diploma from Dermalogica.  I worked for MAC cosmetics and in 2010 started my freelance career and launched my website.  I have since then worked in film, print, tv, weddings and fashion shows.

Initially, what attracted you to the industry?

What initially attracted me to the beauty industry was making people feel good.

How has working in the industry shaped your idea of what beauty is?

Working in the industry for over 15 years has shown me so many sides of beauty.  Every person I have worked with has shown me that beauty is universal in the sense that it makes everyone happy.  From talking about skincare, to shaping eyebrows, to full face makeup, we all want to feel and look good.

How has working in the industry influenced your perception of beauty and skin care products?

In the last 5 years since I've become a mom, I have been more aware of what we are using on the largest organ of our body.  I've always been an ingredient reader, and love to learn more and understand why certain ingredients are used over others, etc.  The more I read and learned, I realized changes needed to happen.

What is Beautycounter and why did you choose to partner with Beautycounter as a consultant?

Beautycounter is a cosmetics and skin care company dedicated to creating safe products that perform.  Besides having the strictest ingredient screening process in the industry, Beautycounter is also focused on sustainable production practices and fighting to change the outdated laws that governs the entire personal care industry.  Once I used the products and they performed, I knew becoming a consultant was a must.  I wanted to be a part of a movement, change, and a part of educating safer beauty.

Can you explain to me how Beautycounter ingredients are unique and the process in how their products are created?

Beautycounter has a 5 step ingredient selection process which sets us apart from others:

  1. Ban Intentionally
  2. Screen Rigorously
  3. Learn Constantly
  4. Source Responsibly
  5. Share Transparently

What are some of your favorite products from the Beautycounter line and what are the most popular products from the line?

Some of my favorite products are actually favorites of Beautycounter clients.

The company recently shared top favorites and they are:

Okay, well I know as we grow wiser over the years (wink wink), a lot of women suffer from dry skin (myself included).  I’m always looking for a good facial moisturizer.  What type of Beautycounter skin care products would you recommend for dry skin?

For dry skin, I would suggest our No. 2 Facial Oil, a blend of 7 natural oils to help nourish and moisture skin.  Jasmine oil is added to replenish moisture.  You can add onto face alone or under a moisturizer.  Cleansing Balm is another great product for dry skin.  You can hydrate your skin while cleaning, using the 100% muslin cloth it comes with.  The balm can also be used as an over night mask!  You will notice an increase in skin hydration after 8 hours!

This sounds awesome Nora, thanks for the recommendation, I will have to try these.

What do you enjoy most about working as a Beautycounter Consultant?

I enjoy educating and sharing Beautycounter, we are a movement devoted to progress.  Our mission statement says it all.  "To get safer products into the hands of everyone."

Thank you Nora, you did a fabulous job!  I think we learned a little bit more about safer beauty and skin care options today.  Thank you for sharing.

Hello!  How did your weekend go?   I hope you had a nice Easter Weekend celebrating with your loved ones.  I must confess, I have a major sweet tooth and I enjoyed a delicious piece of cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory...yum:)

It was cold and raining when we took these photos, so it looks a bit overcast and gray in these photos.  I found this amazing navy coat that doubles as a dress when buttoned.  It's super versatile and that is what I like about most clothing nowadays.  You can get a lot of wear out of this type of item if you have both a "coat" and a "dress" all wrapped up in one.  Also, these types of items are ideal for travelling and saving space in your luggage.  I really like bows and gold, so I'm glad it matched the buttons and details on this navy military coat.

What do you think about versatile clothing?

Hope you are having a great week!
